we surprised the kids with a trip to disneyland on friday. well, they found out when we were almost there. i could only take so much of hearing, "are we there yet" and "where are we going?"

we went straight to the jedi training academy. the kids were so excited to see darth vader 'in person.' then of course we had to go to the store that sells star wars merchandise. malia chose to make her own lightsaber. we thought of it as her present for getting the presidential award. micah only chose a jango fett car.

then we went on buzz lightyear astro blasters. malia rode with roel because she knew he would get a higher score. yes, the difference in scores is pitiful, but micah & i got them back in the toy story mania ride.

in CA adventure, the green army men go around and do a little show with drums. they do some crowd interaction and asked for volunteers to do a freeze march. malia was happy to volunteer. she was the smallest one.

we also managed to get some pictures with woody and jesse. it seemed like we did a lot of toy story stuff, which is good since toy story 3 is coming out next month.

the kids and i went to a bugs land while roel held our place for the parade. micah wanted to ride the ladybug boogie. it's just like the tea cups but seemed really harmless, even for me who has motion sickness. so many little kids were riding it. well, i was completely wrong. that ladybug whirled us around so fast, i couldn't control it. malia and i were dizzy, but micah liked it. thank God for the heimlich caterpillar train that goes like 2mph!

we ended the day with the pixar play parade, our first time to see it. pretty cool, especially to hear the kids say, "did you see the real lightning mcqueen?!"

see you next time disney, it was fun!

malia's presidential award

this morning was the 1st graders award ceremony. malia received the presidential award for high academic acheivement. turns out she was 1 of 2 students in her class to get this award. the other student in her class who got it was one of her BFFs, sarina joy. so that was cute, malia joy & sarina joy. all of the students were so excited to hear that their awards had president obama's signature on it. the award also came with a pin.

roel and i are extremely proud of her. as i went to thank her teacher, she said, "i don't know what she'll be, but malia's destined to be something great."

happy birthday to mama

having my kids sing happy birthday to me is always my favorite birthday gift. that's really all i need. when micah woke me up at 6am this morning asking for milk, i asked him to sing happy birthday to me first. so he sang,"happy birfday to ma-mom, happy birfday to ma-mom, happy birfday to ma-mom, happy birfday to you."

one day...

WDW's star wars weekends starts today. we are lovin the ads. one day we'll make it there for this event. it's on my 'to do' list. micah would just be in heaven.

a little one on one

took malia for dessert yesterday after i picked her up. it`s always nice to have one on one time with each of them. it`s a lot calmer that way too. (unless of course we're in the toy section.)

where is this girl?

seriously, where is this girl they are referring to? i know she doesn't live in my house. does she just come out at school just during testing? the girl that lives at my house magically gets tired and whines when it's time for homework and reading and says that it's too hard.

i found a notice in malia's backpack the other day addressed to 'mr & mrs mislan'. of course i was scared to open it since my daughter just can't seem to stop talking. i thought it would be a note for her behavior. low and behold, we will be at the final award ceremony on may 24. malia will be receiving the Presidential Award, which is the highest academic award that can be received in her class! can you believe it?! she scored the highest all around in her class.

she talks and talks and talks and then talks some more. but somehow, although i don't know how, she is learning. thank you God! and thank you to her awesome teacher!

i guess i have to go to school during testing to find this girl.

potty training is progressing

micah has very few accidents now. most of them occur during nap time or when he doesn't get his pants down in time. but he is more in tune with his body now and is able to tell us when he needs to go. we have moved on from the froggy potty and he only uses the toilet. the funny thing is that he just stands there when he pees. doesn't hold his thing, just stands there and watches. somehow, it makes it in. i'll take it though. the last time i asked him to hold his "titi", he held it for a second and then put his fingers in the pee pee stream. so it's better that he just holds his shirt up while he aims. goodness, boys and their little creatures. girls are so much easier to potty train because they just sit there, no aiming involved.

test post from my phone

i want to be able to post from my phone. but since i don't have a high tech phone, it probably won't be happening too much.
my little guy above getting his fro shaved off yesterday. i LOVE his hair short because it makes his cheeks look bigger. he was so good in the chair, the lady gave him 3 lollipops. he gave one to his sister when he got home.

spring pics & mother's day art

spring pictures came just in time for mother's day. i think they turned out great. we passed them out to the family today. it was a relaxing day today at roel's parents' house. well, sort of. of course the little ones fight every so often or are trying to eat every sugary thing they can find.

and here is some art from school. i was surprised to get art from malia from school. i love it. especially the part where she loves me all the way to 1000.

early mother's day

micah was feeling like himself again yesterday. (boy, those antibiotics kicked in fast.) turns out he was at the start of a bad sinus infection. and malia finally got her bike on thursday and loved it. she thought it was new.

anyways, we decided to go out today to beat the mother's day crowd. my sister had a great idea of going to the coronado ferry landing together, but then she couldn't make it. we still went. it's been years since i've been there.

we had a quick picnic on the grass. the kids stuffed their faces fast and went off into the sand. i don't like sand, but it was fun to watch them.

then we rented a surrey bike. it's cute that the kids ride in the front. as we went down the bike path micah said,"this is awesome." and yes, it was. the scenery was beautiful. and it was cool to go underneath the coronado bridge.

after that, we went for some ice cream at coldstone. that's when the little boy decided to throw a fit. he was overdue for a nap, but sometimes he's okay. not the case today. and why did daddy get cones instead of cups, i don't know why. micah's ice cream was dripping all over his hand, onto his pants, and then onto me. he was so mad, but still wanted his ice cream. all we could do was wipe him and laugh. malia was happy to finish any unwanted ice cream. she is an ice cream addict.
i loved my mother's day outing. we will definitely be back at ferry landing soon.

the monsters

yesterday micah had a fever that came out of nowhere. didn't see it coming at all, no coughing, no change in behavior. when i first checked it was 101.1. then when it hit 102, he started to get clingy. he didn't have much response to tylenol (ours was not recalled). and he just so happens to be allergic to motrin. not good. so i gave him a bath and it went down a little and he went to sleep. by midnight it was at 102.9 and he wasn't due for his next dose of tylenol yet. so i put him in the bath again. i couldn't tell if he was red from his fever or from screaming for me to hold him. after that he went back to sleep. i woke up at 2am when he started talking. he was pointing at the ceiling and telling me that the monsters were there. then he sat up and said one was on his pillow. (okay, i've dealt with a lot of fevers and weird symptoms before, like up to 104.1 with malia with no talking for 3 days, but these hallucinations are a new thing.) so i picked him up and went over to the computer to google his symptoms and he tells me,"oh there's a blue monster right there." i asked him what the monster looked like. "like a snake," he said. i guess it could've been worse, i'll take a snake monster. he went to sleep again, but in my arms because he didn't want to go back to the monsters.

and here we are this morning, he's sleeping in my arms. he still has a fever. no coughing. not even a stuffy nose. we are heading to his doctor when it opens to get this taken care of. my poor boy. i want him to be his happy self again. and we don't want any monsters in our room tonight.

malia is 6 and a half

happy half birthday to malia joy. i think she was so excited about her half birthday, she decided not to behave in class. she was on yellow. and last week wasn't so good either. so i decided that we would celebrate but she had to earn her present. so maybe one day this week she'll get her present, which is a bike. she's been wanting a bike for a while now. and i happen to come across one on craigslist last week, for only $15! i was excited because new bikes cost $60+. and even though this one is used, it's still in great condition. i just fixed it up with a new basket. she forgot all about asking for her present after the cookie pie.
