honor roll
micah received an honor roll award today. this boy hates homework, but he does a good job in class. he is the one who is always asking for rewards for his good deeds. for this one, he got a lego army minifigure.
the school year flew by, and this boy is graduating kinder on monday. my children just keep growing up.

presidential award
malia received the presidential award today. this award goes to the top 3 students in each class. very proud of her, especially because this was a personal goal she set for herself.
it's a big deal to her to have the president's signature on her award (even though it's just a stamp). it's a big year for her. she will be 10 before i know it and will be entering 5th grade soon. i'm hoping she won't like boys until at least 8th grade!

talent show girl
for this year's talent show, malia decided she would play her ukulele and sing "i'm yours" by jason mraz. she did really well, considering she learned it in a month.
she auditioned last month with the music since she didn't have the song down yet, so the choir teacher in charge of the talent show made her perform with the music. we weren't too happy about it, but what could we do.
she's my brave girl, we are so proud of her many talents.

biztown
here's my Biztown girl. 4th graders go on a field trip to Biztown, a place where they get to have "real jobs" for a day, and pretend to be in the real world. she was so excited, she told everyone she was going, even though they had no clue what she was talking about.
she gave her teacher her top 3 choices, but her teacher handed out the jobs she thought was appropriate for each child. malia was given the job of CEO of Kaiser Permanente. that's a big time job.
here's my little CEO giving a speech in front of everyone.
here she is writing a check at the bank.
her ninong jojeann was able to be a volunteer for this field trip since roel & i couldn't make it. although he couldn't be in her group, he said he would look over in her direction and malia looked as though she were telling people what to do. just as a CEO should i guess. he was able to interact with her when she came to the bank. they had fun, and she was so happy he came.
can't wait to find out what malia will be CEO of when she grows up.

grandma's coronation
roel's parents belong to a senior organization. it's good for them to be a part of it, especially because they are into ballroom dancing.
they had a spring dance, and roel's mom was chosen to be the spring queen.
it was interesting and cute to see so many old couples dancing. malia danced with grandpa & grandma.
micah wouldn't dance. i had to bribe him to dance with me. and he said he would only dance with me outside, oh my goodness.
did the electric slide and tried to teach lia.
here's grandma with her crown. of course, malia's eyes opened wide when she saw the crown.
and here she is, trying on the crown. she said it was heavy.

goodbye to our Bonita house
it was time to say goodbye to the bonita house due to foundation
problems. my dad had been going back and forth with the idea of selling
the house for a while and finally decided on it in january. it went on
the market in february and sold in about a month. then we were given 45
days to move out.
roel & i had been talking to the kids about moving since christmas. we wanted to prepare them early so it wouldn't be so hard when the move finally came.
but it didn't dawn on the kids that we were never coming back to the house, not even to visit, until the week before we had to get out.
we are temporarily moving to roel's parent's house while we search for a house to buy.
the actual moving day was today, but i wanted to move the kids out the weekend before so that the transition wouldn't be so hard on them during the school week.
this was our last night in the house. we slept on the floor.
big box storage delivered.
malia in front of her closet doors with the ariel stickers that used to be mine when it was my room growing up.
malia next to my name (and Jos') in the cement in front of the one car garage.
the cousins' last picture in front of the house.
you think it would be me, but it's my emotional malia that misses the bonita house most. she cried herself to sleep the first night we were out.
lots of great memories in the bonita house that we take with us. from my mom to buying the house, having guests from the PI, having family over for parties, singing with my sisters, coming home on the weekends from college, jos & i getting ready on our wedding days, to me bringing home my babies and them having all of their first moments there. and so many more memories.
but we will make more, wherever we end up. after all, home is where your family is.

legoland field trip
micah was fortunate to have a field trip to legoland. they said that kinders never get the legoland field trip. so he was VERY excited, and asked me to come.
his first time on the big kid cars. he was a little reluctant to go, but went because his class did. then he loved it.
love this one of the kids on the slide. micah was screaming as he went down.
it's fun and difficult at the same time to be a volunteer on these field trips. i've said it a million times - i really don't know how these teachers are with these kids every day, they really do not get paid enough.

day of the child
day of the child at memorial park in chula vista. we mainly go because malia's school choir performs.
first stop is always fuddruckers because it's right there. or as micah calls it, "friesruckers". gee, i wonder why.

they always have cool activites like arts and crafts and obstacle courses. my favorite things are the free things of course. i got free night lights and food.
discovery center booth. they usually have and owl and a snake. kids always like touching the snake. scary. i think it's trying to smell micah's face, yikes!
malia's school choir performance. they sang about 5 songs. malia is front and center because she is so tiny. she's gotten a lot better with her stage presence, but towards the end of the performance, her emotions are clear by the expression on her face. she got real hot in this one and was fanning herself with her hand by the end. i don't blame her though, they are wearing wool sweaters in the heat.
i'm sure we'll be back every year if she's still in choir. maybe micah will join choir and will be up there next year too. he's taken an interest in singing lately. (it's a miracle.) now if we could only get him to dance more in front of people.
