old videos

one of my favorite things to do with free time is watch old family videos. the kids can see how they acted when they were younger. it does make me sad though. i miss them being so small. it makes me want to reach in and grab them.

these are two of my personal favorites of them together. the first one is from 2009, the kids dancing to music coming from a kids' music player. micah was 1 and malia 5.

 

this one was from an early mother's celebration in 2010. this was at the ferry landing in coronado after we went on the surrey bike. 

 

 

it's hard to believe how much they've grown in so little time. i could watch these over and over again, they make my heart so happy. love these kids!

ladybug hunters

that's what the kids said they were, ladybug hunters. they found a lot in the backyard and tried to put them all into one spot to be a family.

happy Palm Sunday

me: it's Palm Sunday
micah: Palm Sunday?
me: yes, we get palm leaves at church
micah: last time daddy made me a gun
me: no, that was a cross

ayayay, my boy turns anything into a gun or sword!

this year we donated some money and got the fancy palms made by "hands for Christ."

after mass, we went to the Sousa's house for Nina's birthday and did an egg hunt there with the cousins.

it's almost Easter!

honor roll time again

this time for malia. she got perfect attendance too.

funny to think that this girl occasionally gets detention for messing around in class or talking to much, but she still manages to do well.

since she got detention yesterday, she wasn't allowed to watch tv or play on the computer. so she went to her other love - drawing.

 

i love all of her drawings. i hope she keeps at it. and her school is expanding their arts program, so she will definitely benefit from that.

puberty?!?!?

got this from lia yesterday. all I could say (in my head) was WHY? 4th grade seems a bit early but i remember a friend got her period in 4th grade. i guess it's because lia is so tiny, she seems SO FAR from puberty.

i told her that she's not supposed to giggle or say things like yuck during the presentation. i told her she could ask me questions afterwards.

this morning, i googled the video. i found one on vimeo, hoping it's the same one she'll watch. as i watched it, i found myself feeling sorry for her, that she would have to go through the horrific change into womanhood. so sad, i just hope puberty will wait until later for her, much later.

sd natural history museum

the kids have been off since friday for presidents' day, but i only had today off. roel had to work today and i wanted to do something fun with the kids. the adventos invited us to the san diego natural history museum. sounded good since they were featuring the history of chocolate.

in all the years i've lived in san diego, which has been most of my life, i don't think i've ever been to this museum.

the kids were excited to see fossils of dinosaurs and other creatures that were 40+ million years old.

went through the chocolate exhibit. of course we were craving chocolate after.

 

  

we also watched a short 3d on bugs. then they did some free crafts. i don't know why i didn't get pics of that.

they even had some animals on display like snakes, diving beetles, and stink bugs. the kids loved it.

happy valentine's day

the kids woke up to their sign and were excited.

we had planned to eat at california pizza kitchen for dinner, but it was so crowded we just ended up ordering our food to go. it ended up being such a nicer dinner that way.

the kids had valentine's for me and roel too. micah's was a wearable valentine that said:

i have a card i want to give you.
please be very careful with it.
the card is Me!
this card represents all the love i feel for you.

 

then malia and i noticed our names weren't on the card, just dad. he told us there was no more room.

happy ash wednesday

when are we going to get our ashes? are the ashes dirt? does mine look like a cross? is it still on my forehead?...

i feel pretty

i had just finished putting on a little makeup and micah was watching me.

me: am i pretty micah?
micah: (nods) a little
me: ok thanks, so who is pretty then, lia?
micah: i am!!!
