My mom has been in heaven for 19 years now. Time flies and so much has changed. Roel and I have learned so much about life since then. We hope to teach our kids everything our parents taught us.

Staying cool on Labor Day
Pool time in the morning, lunch at the K Grill across the street, then BOGO at Nuyo. Micah got some bubblegum flavored frozen yogurt 😖. Malia had coconut, Dutch chocolate, dulce de leche, and cookies n cream 😜.

Homework fun
Micah: can you help me with my math homework?
Me: ok, what does it say?
Micah: write an array.
Me: ok write one, I don't know what that is.
Micah: you don't know what an array is?!!
Me: no, I don't go to school!
This is how homework is with common core. It's great!

Micah's awards
What a big day for this boy! He doesn't like homework and will get it done as fast as he can. He is sad when any break or weekend is over and it's time to go back to school. He gets in trouble for talking in class. Yet he managed this. Proud of him!
And perfect attendance for the entire year is really hard to achieve for a child with asthma. Hopefully he's growing out of it.
Now he'll be asking me to buy him something. Sorry, I don't buy gifts for awards, that's Roel's department.

Micah's first run
Micah always wants to go for a walk/run with me, but he doesn't want to do a 5K (besides disneyland). So I signed him up for the Kids 1K for the EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) Warrior Foundation. Perfect for Memorial Day remembrance.
He loved it. He got to control 3 bomb robots, use a working medal detector, and look at lots of bomb gear. And he gunned the run. I asked him why he never goes that fast when we run/walk together. He said he was excited for this one. So I guess we'll be doing this one next year.

She's a lady
When we got home from the beach, Malia called me to the bathroom. Sure enough, she had started her period. She didn't freak out, probably because some of her friends had it already and they have talked about it. She's also asked me a whole bunch of questions about it already.
Of course, when Malia called me to the bathroom, my nosey son came running in front of me to find out what was going on. He was concerned because he saw her, but I had to vaguely explain to him that she was ok.
We had lessons on pads and more talks. She thought it would only come once a year. If only we could be so lucky.
I knew Roel was a little sad. He told her she was still his little girl. Then he told me it was sad for him and Micah, they would have to deal with both of our hormones. Lol.

Imperial beach for Alina's birthday

Anyone that knows me well, knows that I hate sand. So, I'm not really a fan of the beach. Of course, I think the scenery is beautiful to look at, but I just don't like dealing with sand. It gets everywhere! But now I have my baby powder to ease some of my worries. Sprinkle that stuff on their feet and the sand comes off. Thank you to the makers of baby powder!!!
So anyways, the reason for this post...Micah was invited to his friend Alina's birthday party at Imperial Beach. He's known her since Kinder. She and her family are super sweet. He really wanted to go and begged me to take him. Roel couldn't take them because he had homework. So that left me taking them, I was ecstatic.
As always, the kids had a blast playing in the sand. Then they asked me to take them near the water so they could get their feet wet. But there were millions of little blue things along the shore. I looked it up on my phone. Apparently, every 3-6 years, millions of blue jellyfish called Vellela, wash up on the west coast while trying to eat plankton. The white clear thing acts like a sail. They instantly die, but the rule is not to touch them because the chemicals on them can still affect people with sensitive skin. Interesting.
We were there for 4 hours. I took a nap when we got home.

6th grade luau
Malia with BFF Sammy for the 6th grade luau. It was supposed to be last Friday, but the rain came, so thank goodness the sun was out today. She graduates in 2 weeks. Why is she growing up?!
She had fun, said they played human fooseball. She bought Micah bubbles from inside. It's so sweet how she always thinks of him when she goes somewhere without him.

The boy
Malia is getting older, there's no getting away from that. She's still immature, thank goodness, but she's starting to do things on her own sometimes. Like playing on her computer. Sometimes she wants to play with Micah, other times she just wants to be by herself.
So that means I'm with the boy, a lot. And I'm okay with that because he'll be grown up before I know it.
We went to Sprouts today. What usually takes me 20 minutes to do seems like an hour when he's with me. He wanted to pick out fruit and weigh everything. And try new things too. Maybe God gave me him to teach me patience. When I get impatient, he remains calm, and says something to make me smile.
In the afternoon, he wanted to go "scootering" around the block. Of course he kept stopping for breaks. But he also wanted me to take pictures to show Malia. I love him.

Time
I've been sick on and off since Christmas. From a head cold to the flu, and now with bronchitis. Roel still has a cough from pneumonia. The kids are fine, thank God.
My home is a mess, it hurts me inside, but at the same time I don't care. I do what I can right now.
And right now, my son asks for my time. Smart cookie this one. He wants to wake up early with me before I go to work to spend time with me. And then play with me before bed. I want him to sleep as much as he can in the morning, so he gets upset when I don't wake him up before I leave. His reasoning - that there's so little time together during the week because of school and homework. It's true. I see them for only 4 hours on weekdays because they get home at 4, do homework, eat, play a little and then go to bed at 8.
So I don't care right now if my place isn't as clean as I would like. I look at him and he's getting older. One day he won't ask me to play Legos anymore. That's when I'll have a super clean home. Right now he's more worth my time.
(Yes most of his home pics are in in his underwear, even in winter. I don't know why he doesn't want to wear clothes at home.)

Clean your room
What does that mean to a child really? It could be overwhelming I realize, but I want the kids to at least attempt to clean their rooms. I've shown them how, but just like folding laundry, it takes practice.
So when I tell the kids to clean their rooms, they will say ok and disappear upstairs. Malia will put things wherever she can find room, but she's getting better at it. It's hard to organize her room when she has SO many little trinkets, stuffed animals, and paper everywhere.
Micah's version of a clean room...closing the door. I guess he thinks if I can't see the mess, it doesn't exist. Funny guy.

the kids were doing a google search of themselves. the last time they did this, they found some pics of themselves. this time they found this blog. they loved reading about themselves growing up, which was entirely my intention of the blog.
ever since i joined instagram, i just stopped posting on the blog. but this inspires me to keep going, for them.

6th grade camp
My baby girl went off to camp today. It's a big milestone and one that was far from my mind when she was born. But it came out of nowhere, and I couldn't avoid it. She was SO excited to go, she went to all the meetings, took notes, made sure I paid and everything.
Packing was the worst part of it all. I'm pretty sure we overpacked.
Here she is with her BFF Sammy, who told me she would take care of Lia. Cute.

I didn't cry until I got home from work. Micah was sad too, but he didn't cry, he just hugged me.

Wicked
Malia has been into musicals lately, so I took her to watch Wicked. First time for both of us. I read the book, but it had adult content so I didn't let her read it. But the musical is family friendly.
We sat in the dress circle which were pretty good seats. I Loved it, the cast was so talented. More importantly, Malia loved it. We went out to the side after the show to get some autographs from the cast.
Looking forward to our next musical together.

mother's day
we always start celebrating mother's day the day before with my sister. we had busy schedules this year, so we just met up for dinner at project pie in eastlake. our first time there and we loved the pizza. the kids really enjoyed creating their own.
i don't really like getting flowers, so roel gave me an ipad mini. he said it was mainly for me to read my books on. micah was so happy about it. he downloaded a bunch of games and used it every chance he could.
on sunday, roel's mom wanted to eat at the vip buffet in chula vista, so we stuffed our faces there. it was so hot after that, malia wanted to go in the pool. and the adventos joined us. so it was a fun mother's day.
before bed malia said, "this was a great mother's day."

funny photo
this picture makes me smile. lots of things wrong in this picture. i think i have a past post of micah vacuuming in his underwear. he complained that it would be a hard task vacuuming the rug, but once he did it, he didn't want to stop. he had to vacuum because he was eating chips on the carpet and spilled all over the place. malia didn't even notice micah vacuuming.

friday nights
malia has been asking for her own room since last year. and then we finally moved and she got it. but ever since then, she's been trying to come back in our bed. so she has designated fridays as the day they both get to sleep in our bed. they are big now so we have to sleep sideways, and it's uncomfortable for me and roel because we can't stretch our legs out, plus we get kicked, but we love it. that's all they get though cuz i have to make up for lack of sleep on saturday nights.
